Flyers vs. Caps Rookies: Commercial
September 3, 2010
So in 13 days the Flyers are going to take the ice and play another NHL team. Granted, the casual fan won't know many of the players on the ice for the Flyers, and even the most obsessed fan won't know much about the opposition, but it's hockey. And thank G-O-D for that. I can't imagine how long this hot, hot summer's been for fans that didn't have games well into June. That's not even a shot at anyone, that's just me truthin'.

Opening for Host of Show We Don’t Have Already Filled
September 2, 2010
It was going to be a simple job description. We needed a passionate Flyers fan who calls himself Humphrey Flogart and Mr. Casanova Coffee Brown to use phrases such as 'man with the golden gun' and be willing to break down goaltending video. Then Jon showed me this: 'You know better than to drive in a fucking car while half asleep.' Mr. EvenStatus , when our deal comes through we'll be awaiting your call.

Guerin, No Thanks

So my daily visit to the Flyers website revealed an interesting piece of news. Bill Guerin had an informal skating session with our boys, with permission from Paul Holmgren . He downplays the significance, saying that he was visiting family in the area, and just wanted to skate a bit. I call bullshit! I do not want him wearing Orange and Black; he’s not welcome. But I have a sneaking suspicion that he’ll get a chance to earn a roster spot. Yeah, keep looking away. (Courtesy: TSN.ca) It’s not about whether or not he can play and contribute something to the team (he can). It’s about his history, and what he’s been a part of over the years. He’s been a significant part of two franchises that rolled over us in the Eastern Conference Finals en route to a Stanley Cup Championship. And it’s not just any franchises, it’s two out of our biggest rivals of all time: the New Jersey Devils (1995) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009)

Flyers! The Movie Coming to Theatres Near You in 2012
September 2, 2010
We've been petitioning the Flyers to allow us to shoot a documentary, much like Jimmy Fallon did with the Red Sox, for the better part of 3 years. And they finally caved in. Kind of. Instead of letting us follow the team around with two cameras for the 2010-11 season, capturing all the tomfoolery of the road, the highs of success, and the lows of defeat, they decided to allow us to film ourselves watching their games as long as we don't mistakenly get any of the actual games in any shots. Which is cool, I guess. But just to make sure that we capture the true emotions of a full NHL season as seen through players' eyes Fran went ahead and greenlit(?) an actual dramadey called 'Flyers! The Movie.' Seeing as you're a paying member of Flyers Goal Scored By Insider, we thought it'd be cool to let you know who's been cast for which roles before the general public finds out. We're sending out the letters today and are fairly sure that these fine actors will be willing to clear their schedules for a Thanksgiving weekend start. We're planning on bringing our team to meet the actual Flyers on Black Friday, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

New faces in New places, who challenges Flyers in the East in 2010-11

The off-season of 2010 has been a wild one; many players have found new homes as the NHL looks drastically different then it has last season. Your Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the more active teams so far bringing in forwards: Jody Shelley, Nikolai Zherdev and what many believe will soon be veteran forward Bill Guerin. The blue line has become a lot deeper as well as the most expensive in the league with the additions of Andrej Meszaros, Sean O’Donnell and Matt Walker. But if the Flyers want to repeat the success that they had last season, two things must happen. Continued success must carry over from last season and they must bring that high level of play into the arena every night to win games against much improved teams! So lets look around the NHL to see which teams have improved and which have regressed. The Pittsburgh Penguins have always been a tough team to play and with 6 games against them in the regular season that rough task will continue. Our former friend Arron Asham has joined the Pens this off-season and this gritty 5’11, 200 lb winger will bring a lot more to this team then most people will give him credit for. Ash is a hard-nosed guy with soft hands, and when he is given the room to do so he is actually able to light the lamp a bit

Guerin looking for tryout offer, players arrive early

Hard to believe, but there are just 14 days left before the NHL hits training camp after one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory. The Philadelphia Flyers are coming a season where they won the Eastern Conf. Title and made it to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. What will this year bring the orange and black? We have plenty of time to discuss that, so lets save that for a later date. Furthermore, an interesting bit of news came out of the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees NJ today. Recently released NHL veteran Bill Guerin, was seen working out in Flyers gear this morning, according to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio. Guerin, 39, was surprisingly released from the Pittsburgh Penguins on August 27th when the Pens decided not to bring him back to the team for the 2010-11 season

I Want More Preseason Games On TV
September 1, 2010
The local TV schedule was released yesterday, following last weeks announcement of the national TV schedule . I noticed that only one of the games will be on Comcast Sportsnet, and two on The Comcast Network. That leaves 5 games without TV coverage. I know all 8 games will be on the radio, but it’s not the same. Baseball and football work well on radio because those sports have a lot of starting and stopping. Hockey, a real man’s sport, is much more free flowing, and just listening to play by play simply doesn’t do it justice. It’s not that preseason hockey is so great and that I can’t stand missing games as if they counted. I like to see the different line combinations, I like to see the players trying to make the team, and I like to somewhat get a feel for how the veterans look. In contrast to preseason football, a preseason hockey game is actually pretty fun. There’s no such thing as vanilla offense, every guy (veteran or rookie) busts his ass on every shift, and the pace is pretty close to how it will be in the regular season.

Never Too Late to Tinker

I know the Flyers are cash strapped and there’s no cap space to sign anyone (not that there’s anyone out there worth signing). That doesn’t rule out the opportunity for trades, however. As you should know, I write once a week for our NHL site, Too Many Men on the Site . My latest feature was about Bobby Ryan , of the Anaheim Ducks . There were whispers of a trade that would bring him to Philly earlier this summer, but I haven’t heard anything in a few months. As we know, hockey features significantly more trades than the other major sports, and it can happen almost at any time. I want the Flyers to go hard after Ryan NOW! Courtesy: battleofcali.com If you’re on the main BSB page, please click Continue Reading to see the rest of this post. How could this guy not be a perfect fit? He’s local, he’s tough as nails, and he can score some goals. I’m really worried about our lack of depth at the wing position, especially with Gagne leaving the team. I do think that Zherdev will provide some offense, but he’s somewhat streaky. Maybe he’s turned a new leaf, maybe he’ll be better. But Ryan is a proven commodity. He’ll average about 30 goals per season, and it worth about $4-5M per season for at least the next 4-5 seasons. You may be wondering why he’s on the trading block if he’s a good, young player. Well, right now he’s a restricted free agent, who wants to stay in Anaheim , but they can’t agree on a deal. Training camp is getting closer and closer, and still they have nothing. Sure, he can sign elsewhere and the Ducks will receive compensation. They’re better of dealing him for current players, and knowing what they’re getting, rather than hoping a draft pick develops into a good player. So, what do we have the Anaheim would want

What to Do With These Forwards?

In two days it's September. The month in which training camps begin and mountainous kids from the farms of Canada begin fighting, literally, for jobs during NHL pre-season games. The internet is waking from it's 2 month hockey hibernation. People are getting excited. So the Flyers made some moves this off-season. Brought in a former blue chip defenseman looking to regain his old form, brought in a veteran #6 d-man, and exchanged fan favorite Simon Gagne for enigmatic Russian Nik Zherdev
