This should come as no surprise. He has a history of rebounding from what media types consider off years. A year ago, had 58 points. The man played much of the season in pain. In 10-11, “G” came off a 47-point rookie season, with a 76-point effort. A career-high, 93 points, followed a year later. After a 48-point year in 12-13, Giroux rang up 86 points in 13-14. After a 73-point season in 14-15, the captain had 67 points in 15-16. Currently, he is just six points behind his season total a year ago. Claude is not proving folks wrong. He’s proving supporters, who knew his pain a year ago, right.

Comment on Simmonds ignites Flyers with 400th point by John James http://www.flyersfancentral.com/2018/01/simmonds-ignites-flyers-with-400th-point/#comment-39639 Tue, 09 Jan 2018 17:51:13 +0000 http://www.flyersfancentral.com/?p=39431#comment-39639 I would suggest that this is the highlight of the Flyers’ first half. Wayne Simmonds represents the Flyers’ logo like no other player on the roster.

It’s time to have a very Merry Christmas. And, a Happy New Year. Emphasis on the latter. Got to find that mojo and come out of the 2018 gate on fire. The first half provided plenty of pluses, but way too many losses. Hope Santa can bring us some offense. The ingredients are there. But, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can stir the pot. And, sir it we must. Yes, we have some very talented young skaters, but getting older doesn’t automatically mean getting better. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. But in the Metro, it just might be a train.

Back in the 80s he’d be around 15th out of 18 skaters. Basically, the Flyers didn’t lose many FIGHTS or GAMES back then, I agree with everything you say, don’t get me wrong. I know they turned hockey into a pussy sport now but I think if you were smart you can still win through intimidation. And what better team to test that with than the Flyers. But NO, we keep trying to get smaller and faster. How’s that working out? Gets some balls Hextall.

Comment on Brandon Manning vs Matt Beleskey Mar 11, 2017 by jim http://www.flyersfancentral.com/2017/03/brandon-manning-vs-matt-beleskey-mar-11-2017/#comment-39633 Sun, 17 Dec 2017 06:29:09 +0000 http://www.flyersfancentral.com/?p=38601#comment-39633 Well John they snapped their 10 game losing streak but they’re still boring as hell and it won’t last as long as they continue to let the rest of the league dictate how they should play. I’m surprised at Hextall. I thought Flyers hockey was going against the grain like the Oakland Raiders and the Flyers of the 70s and WE dictate the action. The 4th line ain’t doing shit anyway so why don’t we go against the rest of the league and maybe bring up a couple dudes who can mix it up. That’s right. We gotta stay in line with the rest of the league and can’t shake things up. Last time we did that was 1974-75 and we all know what happened then. And there was probably something into Pronger getting in Giroux’s face a few years back. When the leader is gutless the team probably will be too.

Comment on 12/06/17 Condensed Game: Flyers @ Oilers by John James http://www.flyersfancentral.com/2017/12/12-06-17-condensed-game-flyers-oilers/#comment-39632 Fri, 08 Dec 2017 01:27:48 +0000 http://www.flyersfancentral.com/?p=39238#comment-39632 Two huge wins. To the contrary Couple of more wins and the loud noise we will hear will be those same morticians jumping back on the bandwagon. Are we a Stanley Cup contender? Probably not. Are the Flyers are playoff contender? Possibly. Are the Flyers being primed to be Stanley Cup in two or three more years? You bet. I’ve been as critical of the Flyers in past years as anyone. But, I will beg for patience. Right, now these young kids AND veterans are trying not to get in each other’s way. But, they will solve it together. If given a chance.

Please reign in that temper, big man. This team cannot afford to lose you for one game, let alone TEN. Guys like Dirty Tom Wilson can cross the line without as much as a forced cough from NHL hindquarters. Look backwards in a mirror the next time you have your jersey, see the name Gudas. That is a target on your back. Most officials automatically target you. These morons needed to look at the Jumbo-Tron. But, the stick swipe was over the line. Now, your teammates will be without your physicality. Unless, they (Hakstol-Hextall) call up Sam Morin. But, that’s very unlikely, since that’s the only smart thing to do.

But, they jump back on with a vengeance. The Flyers are a good hockey team. Just how good? Let’s play 71 more games. We should find out by then.

Comment on Flyers-Predators preview: Hopefully this ends better than last time by John James http://www.flyersfancentral.com/2017/10/flyers-predators-preview-hopefully-this-ends-better-than-last-time/#comment-39622 Fri, 20 Oct 2017 00:37:54 +0000 http://www.flyersfancentral.com/?p=39095#comment-39622 Will the Flyers win the Stanley Cup? Will the Flyers make the playoffs? Who the heck knows and who, after 6 games, cares. Just let me enjoy the moments and we’ll see how future moments take us. To predict anything at this point, is an exercise in futility. I love this team, the blend of young talents and veterans. I never believed anything I read in preseason predictions, which only serves to fill newspaper and magazine columns, and television and radio dead air. I guess creates conversation before the first puck is dropped. But, for this 72-year-old fan, I take the high and low roads and enjoy ’em both.

Comment on Flyers dominate second period, defeat Panthers 5-1 by John James http://www.flyersfancentral.com/2017/10/flyers-dominate-second-period-defeat-panthers-5-1/#comment-39621 Wed, 18 Oct 2017 20:20:29 +0000 http://www.flyersfancentral.com/?p=39092#comment-39621 Flyers look confident and loose, which resulted in a strong effort for three periods. A combination of youth and veterans look very good in every aspect of the game. I only hope that the “Train” is okay and not headed for any IR. Wayne took exception to a dirty hit by Michael Haley on a Flyers’ teammate. Simmonds taught Haley a serious lesson about going over the line. Hopefully, it sunk in. But, and this is a huge but, and we cannot afford to have out of the lineup. There’s a 6-6 fella, who was dispatched to Lehigh Valley after a strong camp, who enjoys playing an enforcer role. Sam Morin needs to be called up now. I applaud Wayne’s intervention. There was a obvious lack of this philosophy last season and it was at times, downright embarrassing. But, Wayne is far too valuable to risk injury. Flyers’ brass were on record in praising Morin as the second-coming of Chris Pronger. I’LL TAKE THAT!
